Who We Are

History

The Rushmore Composite Squadron is the Rapid City unit of the South Dakota Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. The Rushmore Squadron was initially chartered as the Ellsworth AFB Cadet Squadron on 7 October 1964, with the name changing to the Rushmore Composite Squadron on 1 August 1978. In its 54 year history, the Squadron has earned many awards of distinction. Including five Unit Commendation Awards in 1979, 1981, 1990, 1992 and 2000; and four Squadron of the Year Awards in 1983, 1993, 1999, and 2000.
